The Editor,

Do your readers know about Index on Censorship? It has been defending the right to

freedom of expression and access to information world-wide for over twenty years.

Published six times a year, with some of the world's finest writers and journalists,

the magazine carries analysis, (often controversial) reportage, personal witness,

country files and Index, a chronicle of censorship around the world. Contributors

to the magazine include Noam Chomsky, Wole Soyinka and Vaclav Havel.

Index operates a Sponsored Subsriptions Programme, which supplies the magazine free

of charge to human rights workers and organisations who can make good use of it but

who are unable to subscribe themselves for financial, political or practical reasons

throughout the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and the developing world. If any

of your readers are interested in receiving a free subscription to Index, they should

contact us at the address below, explaining how they would use the magazine:

Index on Censorship, Lancaster House, 33 Islington High Street, London N1 9LH,

United Kingdom.
