Kem Ley honoured by Cambodians in Paris

Cambodian expatriate groups in Paris yesterday took the streets to express their grief and discontent over the death of Kem Ley.

An estimated 200 to 300 people gathered at the Trocadéro near the Eiffel Tower.

One of the organisers, Hy Panhavuth, speaking on the phone from Paris yesterday said: “This protest is based on the death of Mr Kem Ley. We are here for our compatriots, we want to show our solidarity and our sadness. Cambodians in France are greatly affected and have held ceremonies in his honour.”

Meanwhile, a smaller group of about 40 to 50 gathered near the Cambodian ambassador’s residence in Paris demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

An organiser for the latter protest, Ngin Chhorn, said their intent was to “condemn the assassination of professor Kem Ley”.
