Minister of Environment Say Sam Al has announced the commissioning of natural heritage site logos.

According to ministry spokesman Neth Pheaktra, the logo of each natural resource area would identify it and show its special features, citing as an example the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary in Mondulkiri province, which has white-tailed monkeys and elephants.

“We want to emphasise that each site has important biodiversity. A glance at the logo of any protected area will immediately tell us what species are present in that area. It will be helpful in managing and understanding the potential of each of the natural heritage sites,” he said.

According to a February 2 announcement signed by Sam Al and was released recently, the symbols of each natural heritage site would be used in an official capacity, such as on documents and official envelopes issued by the General Directorate of Local Communities or its subordinate units.

“The logos will also be used ceremonially by the directorates and their units, and will be present on their official uniforms,” it said.

According to the ministry, there are 93 types of the shield-shaped logos which are divided into five categories. There are 23 national park designs, 34 for wildlife sanctuaries and 16 for landscape protected areas. Multi-use areas have 15 distinctive designs, as do each of the five Stung Treng Ramsar sites.
