Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Mu Sochua must wait another year for her parliamentary immunity to be restored, a senior parliamentarian from the ruling Cambodian People’s Party said yesterday. SRP lawmakers lodged a request to National Assembly President Heng Samrin on Friday requesting Mu Sochua’s immunity be restored, months after she paid a fine for defaming Prime Minister Hun Sen. Senior CPP lawmaker Cheam Yeap said that parliament cannot restore Mu Sochua’s immunity. “She [paid compensation] in November 2010, so in November 2011, [parliament] can restore her immunity.”
