Man badly hurt hunting after stepping on mine

A man was severely injured on Wednesday in a landmine accident while hunting in Banteay Meanchey province’s Thmar Puok district.

Thmar Puok district police chief Chhuon Tha said Oeun Ny, 20, from Ordar Meanchey province’s Banteay Ampil district, sustained serious injuries while he was hunting in the forest when he stepped on the mine.

Tha said the victim, whose wife lives in Banteay Meanchey, had both legs broken and was admitted to the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Hospital in the province.

“The Dangrek Mountain area is off-limits because of the presence of unexploded ordnance, but he still entered the area at about 6pm,” Tha said.
