Police arrested a man on Sunday for kicking his wife to death at Kraing Daun Tei village, Chaom Chao II commune, in the capital’s Por Sen Chey district.

Phnom Penh Military Police director Maing Soklux told The Post on Monday that Chhem Ngih, 30, and a resident of Kandal village, in Phteah Rong commune, Phnom Kravanh district, Pursat province, was arrested for killing his wife, Sok Khun, 39.

“The violence started because the husband was drunk and angry that his wife refused to get him drinking water. He kicked her in the back causing her to fall and pass out. She died at the hospital,” Soklux said.

The suspect is being questioned by police.

Por Sen Chey district deputy police chief Chea Sovann told The Post a forensic police team inspected the scene to gather information from people and workers there. They then went to the Por Sen Chey Referral Hospital to review the autopsy.

“According to the autopsy results, the woman had bruises on her back and internal bruises. Those bruises were likely the result of being beaten by her husband in the past. This result is consistent with the responses of relatives and workers who said the suspect beat his wife when drunk,” Sovann said.

He said the victim’s body has been handed over to relatives to be taken to her hometown in Pursat province.
