A 27-year-old farmer will be sent to the Oddar Meanchey provincial Military Police station on Wednesday after he was arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Trapaing Prasat district Military Police commander Kong Dara said on Tuesday.

Dara said the man hacked his wife to death using a scythe on Monday afternoon in Trapaing Prasat commune, leaving behind their four-year-old son.

“The suspect confessed to killing his wife because he was exasperated by her after a heated argument,” Dara said.

According to Dara, when the argument intensified, the husband couldn’t contain his anger.

He then picked up a scythe and started hacking her at least five times on her neck, ear, shoulder and chest. The victim died at the scene immediately after sustaining critical injuries.

The suspect was brought to the district Military Police station, where he was detained overnight the same day after neighbours reported the matter, along with the evidence.

At the station, Dara continued, the alleged killer was interrogated and on Tuesday, the police took him back to the crime scene where he re-enacted the murder.
