The Ministry of Health warns the importers and retailers of several types of health supplements, cosmetic products and medicine which have not been registered to immediately remove them from the market.

According to a November 30 notification, the ministry has banned the promotion and sale of LGK supplements, medicines named Miracles, Kamin Chun, and cosmetics named I Care and T care Pharma.

The Law on Pharmaceutical Management requires all health supplementary products which circulate in the country to have a registration number from the ministry.

“People should check the import details on the packaging of any health supplement before buying it. Legitimate supplements will feature the name of the pharmaceutical import and export company and a registration number issued by the health ministry,” it said.

The ministry also called on the public to be wary of the advertising claims of these products, noting that it could not guarantee their quality and that without ministry approval, there is no way to be sure the products would not be harmful to the health of consumers.

It demanded that all online sellers and stakeholders immediately stop importing, distributing or promoting these unregistered health products.

“The health ministry will take strict legal action against online sellers or anyone else who imports, distributes or advertises products without the legally required registration numbers,” added the statement.

Heng Bun Kiet, director of the Department of Drug, Food, Medical Equipment and Cosmetics, urged businesses to comply with the law and cooperate with the ministry to ensure that their products meet the required standards.

He said health officials have paid close attention to maintaining the standards required by law, and that the quality of drugs is always checked thoroughly.

“Do not think that the medicine available in Cambodia is somehow inferior to the drugs which are available abroad. All drugs are of the same quality before being put on the market.

“We are continually evaluating the drugs that are available in the market to ensure that they remain of the highest quality. Each day, inspections are carried out, so please do not worry about the quality of the Kingdom’s domestic drug supply,” he said.
