A new anti-malaria drug will be distributed in Cambodia beginning next year, health officials said Wednesday. Experts said the new DHA-Piperaquine (DHA-PQP) drug worked faster than and without the side effects of drugs currently in use. Dr Doung Socheat, director of the National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control, said at least 50,000 doses would be imported initially and distributed mainly in high-risk areas along the border with Thailand and Vietnam.
