The General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Prevention is looking into the sales of food commodities on the market, especially in Phnom Penh and Kandal provincial town Takmao, as some traders have reportedly inflated their prices amid the lockdown.

Director-general Phan Oun told The Post that his officials had started monitoring the prices since before the lockdown.

“In general, food commodity prices have not increased much, but we will continue our monitoring as advised by Prime Minister [Hun Sen].”

Prime Minister Hun Sen on the night of April 14 told relevant institutions and authorities to find ways to curb food price increase by opportunists amid the lockdown.
