A total of 1177 inmates, including 67 women, from an old prison in Chiro commune's Tuol Vihear village of Tbong Khmum province's Tbong Khmum district have been transferred to a newly built prison in Kampong Cham province.

General Department of Prisons spokesman Nouth Savna said the transfer went smoothly with an escort of 162 police officers from relevant units.

“They all are safe now in the new prison in Kampong Cham,” he said.

He said the new facility has seven buildings on 4ha of land in Prey Chhor district's Mien commune, about 20km from the Kampong Cham Provincial Court.
