Phnom Penh authorities told to enforce alcohol ban

Phnom Penh municipal governor Khuong Sreng reminded authorities in the capital's 14 districts to remain strict in preventing gatherings for drinks and reopening of entertainment venues as the capital has extended Covid-19 restrictions through September 9.

Speaking during the inauguration of governors of two districts on August 27, Sreng said: “So far, some entertainment businesses including karaoke palours in some districts have illegally reopened and served alcohol.”

“We don’t need to reprimand them anymore, just crack down on them immediately in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus, especially the Delta variant. Only then can we fully reopen Phnom Penh and the country,” he said.

Sreng instructed district authorities to patrol their territories to ensure security and public order and enforce alcohol ban.
