Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Tuesday launched the Post Malaysia Friendship Club, an initiative of The Phnom Penh Post and the Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
Post Media Co Ltd chief operating officer James Ong said the primary aim of the club is to create a social network that could function as a common platform for like-minded individuals.
“They can share their common interests in social work, cultural interests, volunteerism, charitable and philanthropic events, and also be informed of the latest developments in the Kingdom.
“And as an avenue to network, it will also help to promote cross-cultural understanding,” he said.
Malaysian ambassador to Cambodia Eldeen Hasaaini Mohd Hashim said the embassy is pleased to be a part of the initiative and is looking forward to uniting all Malaysians in the Kingdom through the club.
“It will help to build the bond of friendship among Malaysians living overseas. And most importantly, during emergencies, this network can help the embassy to reach out to its nationals.
“That apart, friends of Malaysia can sign up and become a part of our network, through which the embassy can provide them with information and assistance to invest in the country,” he said.
Post Media Co Ltd CEO Ly Tayseng said the Post Malaysia Friendship Club is just the first of its kind, and that the initiative will be expanded in time to other embassies as well.
“We are very grateful to the Malaysian ambassador for recognising the worth and importance of this club and partnering us in this initiative.
“His enthusiasm has set the path for other embassies to join in as well through their own friendship clubs which will be formed in due course,” he said.
