PM touts ‘blossoming’ strategy as Phnom Penh joins world’s cities with highest Covid vaccination rate

The Kingdom’s capital could achieve the highest rate of Covid-19 vaccinations compared to other cities around the world because the government has a clear strategy in vaccine management and distribution, Prime Minister Hun Sen said.

Speaking at the launch of Covid-19 vaccination campaign for children aged 6-11 at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on September 17, he noted that Cambodia’s close ties with China was not the main factor behind this achievement.

Hun Sen made the remarks after an Australian-based media outlet reported recently that Cambodia had the highest rate of vaccination compared to other cities around the world.

“I want to stress that if there is no clear control and management of the vaccines, they would have been distributed here and there [disorderly]. It is not our close relations with China that enables us to accomplish such a high rate of vaccinations compared to other cities around the world,” he said.

The prime minister said Cambodia has adopted a blossoming strategy, which kicks off in the capital and neighbouring provinces before expanding to other parts of the country in order of priority. Through this strategy, he said the Kingdom will be able to achieved herd immunity as planned.
