Cambodian leaders, officials and the public commemorated the 10th anniversary of the death of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, who passed away on October 15 in 2012 at the age of 89.

“Today, Cambodians across the country, civil servants and members of the armed forces at all levels, pay their respects to the late king father, who devoted his life and energy – both physical and mental – to the cause of our motherland,” wrote Prime Minister Hun Sen, in a social media post.

The prime minister wished a peaceful rest to the soul of the late king father.

Many senior government officials gathered to pay their respects to the king at his statue, east of the Independence Monument.

Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications led a delegation from his ministry to pay tribute at the statue.

“We offer our gratitude to the king father for his devotion to the Cambodian motherland,” he said.

Another government official seen paying his respect to the late king at his statue was Minister of Rural Development Ouk Rabun. Rabun described the King Father as the father of independence, territorial sovereignty and unity of Cambodia.

Several other ministries, institutions and members of the general public also commemorated the anniversary through social media posts.
