Sixteen people were killed and 34 others injured in road traffic accidents across the country on the second day of the April 14-16 Khmer New Year holiday, according to the National Police.
Their official report indicated that the 50 casualties resulted from 25 accidents, with speeding being the main cause, followed by drunk driving and vehicle factor such as malfunctions while travelling on the road.
The toll jumped significantly from the first day of the holiday, when eight accidents left three dead and 15 others injured.
