The National Authority for Sambor Prei Kuk and the faculty of Geo-resources and Geotechnical Engineering at the Institute of Technology conducted petrography on engineering materials and ancient objects at the Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex from July 26-28 to learn more about the site.

“The study was conducted in the complex, with excavations carried out at the location where raw materials for brick production were taken in ancient times. The study aims to help us gain a deeper understanding of ancient construction methods – which we will use to improve the way we preserve these artifacts,” said the authority.

It said the study had analyzed brick, sandstone, laterite, and other types of stone used in the construction of the temples and other structures in the Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex, located in Kampong Thom province.

The research team used two kinds of tools: A magnetic susceptibility KT-10 meter and a hand-held fluorescence x-ray.

The authority said that after research was carried out in the field, the team sent samples for further analysis at the Institute of Technology.
