Minister of Interior Sar Kheng ordered all police officers in charge of security at the ASEAN Summit in November to ensure the safety of all foreign leaders and delegations.

Sar Kheng chaired a preparatory meeting on October 5, noting that this year is the third time that Cambodia has taken over the rotating ASEAN chairmanship with the upcoming summit marking an important milestone for the Kingdom and an honour for Cambodia to be in the spotlight on the international stage again.

“We need to be highly committed to properly ensuring the safety and the security of all leaders, especially heads of delegations, who will be attending this important event," he added.

He tasked National Police chief Neth Savoeun with preparing security plans for the summit and related meetings.

Sar Kheng also said that this year's decision to cancel the Water Festival in the capital was due to the need to focus the government's resources on preparations for hosting leaders from around the world in November, including the US, China, Japan, Russia and the EU.
