Interior Minister Sar Kheng reminded all public officials and police that they must serve the public without discrimination, regardless of their political affiliation. A neutral position must also be maintained when dealing with any case involving a political party.

Kheng issued the reminder while presiding over the September 8 inauguration of the new Phnom Penh municipal police headquarters in the capital’s Russey Keo district.

He stressed that in their capacity as police and public officials, they must serve all people equally, whether performing rescues, investigating crimes or providing public services. Anyone who failed to do so was not worthy of being called a public servant.

While praising all civil servants and police who have fulfilled their roles well, he warned that those who do not respect government policy and the regulations of their ministries or institutions will be punished according to administrative procedure.

Discipline began at at the beginning of their careers, during the recruitment and training phase, he added, saying police officers who had not undertaken training were not fit to hold any position in law enforcement.
