The National Police Department for Private Security Management has instructed 26 private security companies to provide addresses, contact numbers and additional documents that prove activity.
The firms have not been active in providing private security services and the department could not contact them which made the number of private security firms inaccurate, said the National Police.
The announcement said the department wished to inform all general directors of these private companies that are dormant to contact the department.
Department director Lim Sokha Rasmey said 26 security companies had registered but showed no signs of having done security work.
Sokha Rasmey said they need to send a company representative to present his department with relevant documents.
“We do not know if a company is closed or not. If the company doesn’t have any operations, we will ask the Ministry of Interior to deregister it. But if the company has not closed yet, it must show up to discuss further solutions,” Sokha Rasmey said.
Sokha Rasmey said the private security sector is important in maintaining social security, public order and safety.
This, he said is especially true for private security agencies working in special economic areas such as banks, money exchange shops, gold and diamond-selling shops, supermarkets, public markets, modern hotels, restaurants, resorts, guesthouses, boreys, factories, clubs and entertainment venues.
PL (Cambodia) Security Co Ltd marketing manager Nook Ne said on Thursday his company, which has nearly 300 security guards, has been serving customers actively and his security staff always cooperates well with law enforcement.
Ne said security guards who provide private security services to enterprises and institutions undergo background checks for employment.
“We have been working in the security field for many years, but we have never had any problems with the authorities or customers. We have helped to protect our customers’ properties,” he said.
The Post attempted to contact several companies on the department’s list, but they could not be reached.
