Sen Sok district police are searching for a robber who killed a female factory worker on Wednesday in Sen Sok district’s O’Bek Ka’am commune in Phnom Penh.

Sen Sok district police chief Hour Mengvang told The Post on Thursday that the district police were identifying a suspect who killed Sroeung Sreyda, 23. The victim was a factory worker and had stayed in a rented room.

She was found dead on Wednesday and was from Tbong Khmum district, Tbong Khmum province.

“The police handed over the body to her family in Tbong Khmum province yesterday. We are searching for a killer but we cannot provide more information as investigations are underway,” he stressed.

O’Bek Ka’am commune police chief Neang Phally said tenants in rooms next to the victim’s suspected she was killed in her rented room.

The victim’s landlord unlocked the room following complaints of a foul odour. When they went into the room, they found her decomposed body.

Phally said after the forensic investigation, the police concluded it as a case of robbery-cum-murder because the victim’s face was covered by a blanket and there were bloodstains on her body and near it.

Also, there were marks on the victim’s neck caused by the string of a hammock. There were lacerations sustained to the victim’s neck which caused bleeding and some of her jewellery were missing.

“These are the findings we established after carrying out a post-mortem on the victim. But now, we are still trying to find out the identity of the suspect,” he said.

Citing her friends and the victim’s employer, he said the victim did not report to work since November 24. Her friends also said she could not be reached by phone. She had even failed to reply to messages on her Facebook account but no one suspected that she had died.

“Besides, her neighbours told me that they did not see the woman going out of the room for days. But the room was locked from the outside.

“They did not notice anything suspicious until they smelt the stench of the victim’s decomposed body and contacted her landlord,” said Phally.
