The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration on October 3 temporarily opened six public toilets along Ochheuteal and Otres beaches for tourists during the upcoming Pchum Ben public holiday.
Provincial hall spokesman Kheang Phearom told The Post on October 3 that nine public toilets had been planned but only six were ready for use.
He said the other three will be finished soon.
He said tourists can use the toilets for free, but he asked people to maintain cleanliness for the beauty in coastal areas.
Provincial governor Kuoch Chamroeun said: “It is a pleasure that six public toilets will be temporarily opened along Ochheuteal and Otres beaches."
Chamroeun called on the public to follow health measures including the three dos and three don’ts to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Taing Sochet Krisna, director of the provincial tourism department, said the toilets would contribute to enhancing the image of Sihanoukville, especially to attracting more tourists to the coastal province.
“The toilets are needed for tourists visiting the beaches,” he said. “If there is no toilet, it will affect the environment and hygiene.”
