The Kandal provincial administration, in collaboration with River Ocean Cleanup, on August 26 launched a garbage collection campaign to clean the banks of the Prek Tnaot River in Takhmao town to keep the river clean and litter-free.

Kandal provincial governor Kong Sophorn said that the launch of the campaign was to end the problem of garbage and help promote the natural resources and biodiversity of the river, as well as raise awareness among the residents of its banks about the importance of conservation and disposing of their trash in the correct manner.

“We launch this campaign to inspire the participation of the public in keeping our waterways free of litter and to always be mindful of the environment,” the administration quoted him as saying, in a social media post.

He added that the clean-up of garbage in the river was not just a dream come true for the environment of the river itself, but also served as a message which emphasized the ways people need to reduce the impact of waste.

Sophorn called on authorities at all levels, youth, students and all members of the public to work together to eliminate garbage on the ground and on the water under the slogan “A clean Cambodia starts with each of us.”

“We must all oin in and plant trees and flowers to create a clean, green community. Garbage is the responsibility of us all,” he added.
