Police are investigating a case involving an assistant clerk in O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrou district, Banteay Meanchey province after two men forcibly dragged her into a car and sped off on March 13.
Commune police chief Norng Sarang said on Sunday that the 24-year-old woman was an orphan staying with her aunt in the commune.
Sarang confirmed that an investigation was underway and the home of her ex-boyfriend, known only as Phan, had been searched in Sampov Loun district, Battambang province.
“At this point in the investigation, Phan is our main suspect. But we have had various reports of people who had fallen for the victim prior to the incident so we are still investigating and collecting information.
O’Beichoan commune chief Tol Sarin said on March 13, the victim was travelling on her motorbike with a 10-year-old girl when she was stopped by two unknown men in a Toyota Camry.
“It is difficult to say whether she was abducted or she agreed to go. The men and the victim were of similar physical build, so it would not have been easy to force her into the car,” he said.
According to the National Police, the girl at the scene stated that the victim said to the men she didn’t know who either of them was. She said one of the suspects then got out of the car and approached the victim.
The girl said the man who approached the victim said she had broken his heart and he then proceeded to drag her into the car and was driven away,” he said.
Former commune chief Suong Moeun said the victim is known for being very attractive and many men liked her.
He said on October 21, last year, she got engaged to 24-year-old Kun Sarak and their wedding was scheduled for April 8 in Poipet town. “The motive could be jealousy as she is very pretty,” he said.
Sarak said for the last few weeks he and his fiancée only had small disagreements because she did not like the fact he would regularly go out to meet friends.
“I cried a lot when I heard that she was missing and I immediately went to her home, but she was not there. I love her and would never use strong words with her even when we had arguments.
“We sometimes argue in the morning, but we are fine by evening, so I hope she is ok and returns home as soon as possible,” he said.
