Ego, fruit left bruised in purse theft attempt

Thinking he saw a ripe opportunity, a bag snatcher’s best efforts were fruitless on Friday after he pounced on a woman’s produce and ended up bruised.

Police say the 21-year-old thief, Sok Pov, attempted to make off with the bag of a 22-year-old woman who had been grocery shopping in the capital’s Tuol Kork district on her way to offer the fruits at a pagoda.

Angering the gods, and nearby onlookers, the Kampong Cham native was chased down, given a beating and sent to the police station.
