A fake charity drive put four men behind bars on Sunday, after police caught them collecting money from villagers under the guise of seeking donations for a pagoda they said they were building, police said.
Doubting the veracity of their claims that money would go toward construction of a pagoda, police brought the alleged do-gooders to the station for questioning.
None of the men could provide documentation of permission to collect money for the house of worship. No pagodas asked or permitted them to collect money, police said. All four were sent to court.
