Ricochet shooting lands guard in prison
A 30-year-old man who al­­legedly pulled a gun and fired shots into the air, injuring a witness, was charged on Tuesday at Phnom Penh Municipal Court. According to police, after an argument brewed outside a nightclub in the capital’s Prampimakara district on July 11, the man, working there as a security guard, fired into the air, attempting to diffuse the quarrel. Too sweet to be true: ‘honey’ dealer nabbed
AN ALLEGED fake-honey dealer was arrested on Wed­nesday after trying to palm off her sugar and water mix as real honey to villagers in Kandal’s Ang Snuol district. The fe­­male suspect schmoozed the village with the concoction, declaring it to be good quality honey - an expensive ingredient used in traditional medicine. Domestic violence puts wife in hospital
Boribou district police in Kampong Chhnang province are searching for a 41-year-old alleged wife-beater who is on the run. According to police, the man accused his wife of having an affair and threatened to kill her, so the wife fled to her daughter’s house. When she returned home, her husband allegedly slashed her twice in the head with an axe and bolted. The victim remains in a critical condition in the provincial hospital. Nokorwat

Drunken rough and tumble turns fatal
A 21-year-old man is dead after his 17-year-old friend, intoxicated, accidently slashed his neck with a cleaver on Wed­­­­­­nesday. Police said the pair had gulped down over four litres of alcohol from sunrise to sunset, when they en­­gaged in a play-fight to see who was the stronger of the two. The suspect grabbed the cleaver and accidently cut his friend’s throat. Villagers grabbed him and turned him in to police, who have sent him to court. Nokorwat

Inexperienced lorry driver kills motorist
A 19-year-old moto-driver was killed on Sunday when he was accidently hit by an unlicensed lorry driver in Kratie’s Snuol district, police said. The 31-year-old suspect was allegedly hurtling down the road at high speeds and slammed into the victim, who died on the scene. The driver attempted to flee but was arrested by police five kilometres from the scene and was sent to court. Police said the driver had never attended driving school and the accident occurred due to his carelessness. Nokorwat
