‘Officials’ sons’ shoot guns but dodge charges

SONS of high-ranking officials allegedly fired guns into the air outside a club on Street 310 in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district early yesterday morning. An eyewitness reported that two groups of men started arguing inside the club after a long night of drinking. Shots were fired into the air after the argument spilled onto the street outside the club. No injuries were reported and the suspects quickly drove away. Police reportedly said they did not pursue the suspects because they recognised them as sons of powerful officials.

Father, daughter die in bus accident

A 45-YEAR-OLD father and his 17-year-old daughter were killed when their motorbike was struck by a bus on Monday night in Battambang province’s Banan district. An eyewitness reported that the daughter was killed instantly, while her father died shortly after being transferred to a hospital. Police are storing the bus in the provincial traffic office pending further investigation.

Police hold 16 after Pailin brothel raids

THREE brothel owners were arrested on Monday during a police crackdown in Pailin province. The first target was a brothel in Tuol Lvea commune in Pailin district, where a 52-year-old man and his 48-year-old wife were arrested along with eight alleged sex workers. At the next targeted brothel, in Sala Krao district’s Sala Krao commune, police arrested a 33-year-old man and five sex workers. The three brothel owners were sent to court, while the 13 sex workers were released.

Two seriously injured in Kampot traffic accident

A 45-YEAR-OLD motodop and a 56-year-old man were seriously injured in a head-on traffic collision on Sunday in Kampot province’s Dang Tong district. Police said that a motorbike collided with a Toyota Camry near the Nhen Tanu bridge. Both men were sent to the hospital and the vehicles were kept at the police station pending a further investigation.

Sword-wielding student arrested

A 19-YEAR-OLD Prey Sondan High School student was arrested on Monday in Takeo province’s Traing district after allegedly bringing a sword to school and threatening students. Police said the student was also a suspect in an ongoing assault case. The student was sent to provincial court to await trial.
