MAN GIVES WIFE TO COMMUNE CHIEF

Nhem Sitha has filed for divorce from her husband Thai Thul after he gave her away to Blong Bunly, the chief of Talor commune in  Bakan district, Pursat province on October 20. Thai Thul, along with 20 relatives, accused Blong Bunly of having sexual relations with his wife and presented him with a letter bearing 21 thumbprints agreeing to give him Nhem Sitha. Both Nhem Sitha and Blong Bunly said they were happy with the arrangement and would marry after the divorce is finalised. Nhem Sitha, who claims she had been in a sexual relationship with Blong Bunly for months, said Thai Thul was an irresponsible husband and could not bring peace to the family.

POLICE ATTACK AND KIDNAP FAMILY

Ken Thina, a 48-year-old cane juice stand worker, was attacked by Battambang district police in Rum Chek 4 village, Ratanak commune, Battambang on Saturday. Witnesses said police tried to drag Ken Thina's wife and daughter into a van and beat the man until he lost consciousness when he tried to defend his family. The current whereabouts of Ken Thina's wife and daughter are unknown.

MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING MOTO

Nuth Sophy, 24, was arrested on the suspicion of stealing a black Viva motorbike belonging to Moeun Samorn, 33, in Tuol Roka village, Chak Angre Kraorm commune, Meanchey district, Phnom Penh at 4:50pm Wednesday. The police said that Nuth Sophy is one of the four men whom they suspect of the theft. Nuth Sophy has been sent to court where he is awaiting trial.

YOUNG PROSTITUTE ARRESTED

Yen Srors, 16, was arrested after he tried to steal a man's cell phone near Wat Phnom in Daun Penh district at 10:30pm Saturday. Police said the young man, who works as a male prostitute, tried to rob the unnamed man after he invited the boy into his car for sex.

POLICE DETAIN 3 MEN IN GAMBLING RAID

Phnom Penh police raided an anarchic gambling den Friday morning and arrested three people while cracking down on illegal betting in Sastra village, Chbar Ampouv commune, Chamkarmon district. Vy Chanthoeun, 27, Kol Spoheakdey, 21 and Kim Kroeun, 21, were taken into custody. Area residents said they were happy with the arrests because the gambling caused disorder.
