The new 2019 Volkswagen Amarok is once again storming the double cabin pick-up segment.

As one of the nicest commercial vehicles that money can buy in the segment, it mixes luxurious features like two tone leather interior with a refined, silky smooth four cylinder 2.0 litre diesel engine complemented by the eight speed automatic gear box.

The 8 speed automatic gearbox in the Amarok makes the vehicle unique in its class.

The first gear is optimised for towing, the Amarok has a towing capacity of three tonnes, while the eighth gear reduces fuel consumption when driving at low-speed on long journeys. This gearbox and the eighth gear in particular make the Amarok a very good value proposition, also highly likely to hold its value as it is ideal for navigating the national and provincial roads.

The interior of the new Amarok is spacious and provides numerous storage options. There is storage in the dash panel, as well as compartments under the front seats, and four cup holders.

The front seats are specially designed by Volkswagen, titled ergoComfort seats, they come in leather and allow for electrical twelve way adjustment, as well as two way manual adjustment.

Adding to the comfort that driver and passengers in the Amarok experience is the “Climatronic” air conditioning. Two zone temperature control in the front seats allows for constant temperature, automatically adjusts to add more or less cool air accordingly. This is great for maintaining comfort for everyone on longer trips.

Performance on and off road is excellent. On both surfaces the Amarok provides ample grunt and responsive power from the 4 cylinder, 8 speed diesel automatic with a fuel efficiency of 7.3litres per 100km.

Premium driving comfort is ensured in the Amarok thanks to the 4MOTION all wheel drive technology, the running gear and the drive calibration are harmonised.

The self locking Torsen middle differential is unique in the pick-up segment and balances power in a balanced 40:60 distribution, this provides increase traction when cornering, and also provides the driver with an extra ‘punch’ when needed.

Increased safety and control is provided via the Anti-lock braking system (ABS) as well as off-road ABS.

This off-road ABS is a fantastic and ingenious new technology that is activated at the simple press of a button.

That button press causes the braking interval to increase. The motivation behind the off-road ABS is to increase control over the vehicle when driving off the beaten track. It does so by locking the wheels in a controlled manner, causing small wedges of material, such as gravel or sand, to build up in front of each wheel, leading to a substantial reduction in stopping distance when off road.

Mod cons and elegant extras are everywhere in the new 2019 Volkswagen Amarok, from the chrome side steps with LED, to the electronic folding side mirrors on the exterior to the leather wrapped multi function steering wheel where radio, navigation system or your mobile phone can be controlled using the buttons.

For a sportier more dynamic drive in the Amarok, try using the ergonomic shifting paddles. Topping off the interior driving technology is the multifunction colour display.

The ‘premium colour’ multifunction display is a high resolution 3D display providing animated menu guidance, the display is nestled between the speedometer and tachometer.

While the ABS and off-road ABS are both fantastic safety systems that serve to improve driver control, the Amarok’s safety features and systems to do not stop there by any means.

Included in the multiple safety features is the Automatic Post-Collision braking system, this system triggers automatic braking after a collision to prevent any secondary collisions. 17 inch disc brakes on the front wheels are complimented by 16 inch rears wheel disc brakes as standard.

The electronic stabilisation programme prevents over or under steer by target braking of individual wheels, while trailer stabilistation steadies the trailer and increases driver safety.

Park Pilot, provides a visual display of the vehicle on the LED screen position in the middle of the dash board, the Rear View camera also displays its images on this screen, but is designed to simplify parking by showing an area behind the car.

Infotainment in the Amarok is a ‘composition media’ radio system, consisting of a 16.5cm colour display, touch screen with proximity sensors, voice control. MP3, AAC and WMA compatible CD drive, with four twenty watt with six loudspeakers.

All in all the Volkswagen Amarok is a class leader in the dual cabin pick-up segment. It’s uncompromising and spirited ride is fantastic on or off-road. The Amarok combines rugged class leading power and strength with premium looks and comfort.

It’s class leading abilities and masculine and robust design place the Volkswagen Amarok at the top of the premium dual cabin pick-up segment.
