Ten boxers on Cambodia's men's team and one from its women's team will travel to Saraburi, Thailand, on October 15, along with three coaches for a two-week training camp before the top four fighters travel to the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships in Jordan.

The 11 boxers who will be sent to the training camp in Thailand this time include Ut Wichet (48kg), Nov Sokti (51kg), Sao Rangsey (54kg), Vanna Ly Heang (57kg), Touch Davit (60kg), Ven Ratha (63.5kg), Set Saroet (67kg), Hun Kimheang (71kg), Ong Phearak (86kg) and Penh Vanthong (67kg) along with female boxer Vy Srey Sros (57kg).

Some of these boxers recently participated in the Ultimate Pro Boxing professional matches at Olympic Stadium on October 6, with Kimheang beating Sarith, Vichet defeating Sokti and Rangsey winning his match over Vanna Ly Heang on points.

The October 6 boxing event also saw 2015 SEA Games silver medalist Ratha defeat Penh Vanthong on points and, to top off the evening's excitement, 2022 SEA Games silver medalist Phearak defeated Poland's Martin Chmielo in an international match-up.

Buy Sophorn, secretary-general of the Boxing Federation of Cambodia, said that the national boxing team will train in Thailand until October 28 along with head coach Kassymhanov Berikbol Amantayevich as well as assistant coaches Sous Lina and Chey Nara.

Their training in Thailand will focus on strengthening the capacity of the national team to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games next year in Cambodia.

"At this camp in Thailand, we will train together with athletes from other countries, so sending our national team to train abroad will strengthen them with experience both in the ring and by learning techniques with other countries to better prepare for the 2023 SEA Games," Sophorn added.

After the training camp in Thailand, four Cambodian boxers – Sokti, Rangsey, Davit and Ratha – will travel to Jordan to compete in the Asian Elite Men's and Women's Boxing Championships, while two other Cambodian heavyweight national team boxers will head to a training programme in Uzbekistan and then join the national team in Jordan, but Sophorn is keeping their name's under wraps for now.

Sophorn said that the six boxers who will be sent to the championships in Jordan, which run from October 30 to November 13, all have outstanding abilities and technique.

"The championships in Jordan are an important opportunity to test our boxers' abilities and techniques as we think they have the highest potential among the national team and it is also an opportunity for them to prepare for the 2023 SEA Games," said Sophorn.
