The Cambodian National Futsal team announced their intention to challenge for the title at the upcoming AFF Futsal Championship 2022. The tournament will hosted by Thailand from April 2-10. The team said they hoped to win glory for the Kingdom.

Fourteen players have been shortlisted from a squad of 25 players for the trip. The hopeful fourteen are Kun Lundaroot, Keo Cheatuo, Keo Sochetra and Tong Chanmony of The Blue Warriors, Duk Sophat and Prum Diamond of Tai Chi FT, Aokchan Sereyvong, Ruos Syratha and Ruos Sychamroeun of Alpha FT, Gnek Thalida, Lak Phirun, and goalkeeper Nuon Veasna of Umal as well as Lun Sothyrath and keeper Phoeun Chanveasna of Young Guns FT.

“It’s a great honour to be selected for the national team, and we are all determined to win this title. No matter the outcome, we will do our best, and hopefully we will get some good results for the nation,” said Prum Diamond, the Tai Chi FT goal scoring machine.

“The 14 players that the coach has selected are all well known and talented indoor football players. After training together for over a week, we are finding each other’s rhythms. Now that we are used to playing together and understand the other guys’ techniques, we are merging nicely and creating the formula that our coach demands,” he added.

“I’m very happy and excited to have been selected for the national team – it’s every player’s dream. This will be the first time I have stepped onto the international stage and I am determined to give 100 per cent. I will deliver on the pitch, no matter how strong our opponents are, and the Cambodian people will see my abilities,” added Lun Sothidarath.

22-year-old Tong Chanmony said: “I’m really excited to have made the final 14, and will do my best against our more experienced opposition. Even though some of the other teams have been competing longer, we give it our all.”

The Cambodian team is in Group A, which means they are scheduled to face Malaysia on the second day of the tournament. They will meet hosts Thailand and then Brunei on the subsequent days. Their last match will be against Indonesia on April 6.

Group B features Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Myanmar and Australia.
