The Boxing Day fixtures threw up a festive fix of fantasy football for gameweek 19, including a goal fest at Old Trafford and a Spurs rout at Villa Park.

The CC/PPP/CTN Fantasy League was lit up like a Christmas tree with star performances from the likes of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale and Stoke’s Jonathan Walters.

The Welsh wizard of the wing, Bale, was inspired in netting an outstanding hat-trick away at Aston Villa to stuff his stocking with 21 fantasy points.

Irish midfielder Walters, meanwhile, bagged a brace against Liverpool to amass 15 points.

West Brom centre-half Chris Brunt (13) and Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones (11) also made the Dream team roster with a goal and assist to their names.

Gameweek 19 was a mini triumph for The Phnom Penh Post as former Sports desk translator Pann Rethea scorched to the top spot on 91 points with his side Koun-Khmer. Rethea’s score was unsurprisingly boosted by a captain’s pick of Bale for nearly half his total, while he also profited from fielding Chelsea’s Juan Mata (11) and Dimitar Berbatov (8).

As Rethea is a Post employee, he is ineligible of collecting the weekly prize of a $20 phone voucher and T-shirt from sponsors Cellcard. The spoils instead fall to second-placed Chamrong Ung, who registered 88 points with his side Rongney_United. Chamrong had Manchester United goal machine Robin van Persie as his skipper for 18 points, along with Bale in his squad.

The conclusion of gameweek 19 signifies the midway point in the Fantasy League, and thus the awarding of extra prizes.

The top three teams in the overall standings receiving a Cellcard wifi router and T-shirt each are the following: 1st, Shirley Tatton – The Dollies (1,086 points); 2nd, Henry Verey – Vox Clamantis (1,079); 3rd, Glenn Press – Walkabout Jokers (1,075).

Seven other members topping the current table will also be invited to join the top three at a special CC/PPP/CTN Fantasy League winners’ party at Tonle Bassac Restaurant on Mao Tse Tung Boulevard on Friday January 4.

These include: Sokmean Yim – MfoneTele FC (1,061); Torres Seng – The Whites FC (1,056); Kevin O’Reilly – heebie-jeebies (1,053); Mark Pastro – Snappers (1,042); Cute Boy FC – Be Bee (1,042); TJ Brown – FC Clang (1,041); and Jonty Press – DemBa Ba Black Sheep (1,039).

Gameweek 20 follows on swiftly this weekend with a transfer deadline of 6:30pm Cambodian time tomorrow.
