The unpredictable nature of football made for some gripping storylines over the weekend – the Hammers finally nailing down their return to the Premier League against Fulham, Spurs getting spiked at home by Norwich, the Baggies carrying themselves to continued glory over Everton, and the Saints coming so close to a heavenly kickstart to their season when entertaining Man United.

The CC/PPP/CTN Fantasy League was another hive of activity over the weekend, with points showering shrewd selections by managers.

There were no less than four players achieving remarkable 15 points hauls bolstering the Dream team. Man City striker Carlos Tevez, who appears in nearly half of all fantasy teams, scored one and set up two against QPR.

Man United forward Robin van Persie gave good cause to believe he would produce another outstanding campaign with new employers thanks to a match winning hat-trick. West Ham defender Winston Reid grabbed a goal and kept things watertight at the back in their Fulham game, while West Brom fullback Gareth McAuley produced the same feat against Everton.

The weekly battle was fierce as ever, with managers seeming desperate to gain an edge whilst forgetting there are rules to our engagement. The gameweek’s only centurion, Sophai Hai’s BEE Citizens on 105 points, had a brilliant squad but slipped up with a simply insane 16 transfers to be ineligible for prizes. Similarly, Jong-Hyuk Lee’s Mondolkiri FC on 98 points was also out of contention with eight transfers.

Thus the weekly spoils of a US$20 phone voucher and T-shirt from sponsors Cellcard fell to TRA MC and his eponymous team TRA MC on 96 points. Picking three of the four 15 pointers, excluding Reid but including Tevez as captain, was a certain catalyst to success as well as the likes of Newcastle midfielder Hatem ben Arfa for 9 points.

After an international fixture break this weekend, Gameweek 4 features a standard set of 10 ties with the West London derby of QPR versus Chelsea on Saturday September 15 as a potential firecracker.
