Red Bull Salzburg secured their eighth successive Austrian league title on Wednesday to give their American coach Jesse Marsch a fitting send-off.

Marsch, who is taking over from Bayern Munich-bound Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, guided Salzburg to the title with two games to spare with a 2-0 win over Rapid Vienna.

This was Salzburg’s 12th championship crown since Red Bull took over as owners in 2005.

A double from Patson Daka secured the all important win over Rapid.

“We have so much individual quality and have worked so well together that I’m very grateful to be here,” said Daka.

Marsch, 47, will take over on July 1 from Nagelsmann, who was announced as the next Bayern boss last month.

A former assistant coach of the US men’s national team, Wisconsin-born Marsch has long been a rising star within Red Bull’s sprawling global football network.
