Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed more technological investment in Cambodia by Chinese company Huawei Technology Co., Ltd, noting that the communications firm has been present in Cambodia for more than 25 years.

Manet’s call came on September 14 during his meeting with Liang Hua, chairman of Huawei Technology Co., Ltd. The meeting was scheduled on the sidelines of his official visit to China this week.

Manet thanked the company for its cooperation with Cambodia’s ministries and institutions in building and developing the Kingdom’s telecommunication infrastructure, expressing his appreciation for the company’s more than two decades of support for the sector.

“Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his hope that Huawei Technology Co., Ltd will continue to bring more updated technology from China to Cambodia, and stressed that his government will maintain the existing policy of excellent relations and cooperation between the two nations. He also encouraged more [Chinese] investment in Cambodia,” said Manet’s social media channel.

Manet underscored the current security and political stability in Cambodia, which forms the foundation for trust among investors. He explained that digital infrastructure is crucial, and that the government and the private sector will need to work together more closely, using the cooperation with Huawei as an example.

“Moreover, the prime minister encouraged Huawei Technology Co., Ltd, to examine the possibility of investing in other sectors, such as the manufacture of electronic components” the social media channel added.

Liang thanked Manet for the meeting and congratulated him on his appointment as prime minister. He briefed the prime minister on his company’s operations in the Kingdom, including its contributions to digital infrastructure development, telecommunications, and Huawei’s smart system.

The meeting also touched on human resource development through training which focused on the Kingdom’s digital capacity, with the Huawei chair expressing an interest in providing training, from primary school to high school levels.

Manet’s social media explained that Huawei currently cooperates with several universities in Cambodia to provide digital training.

The prime minister reiterated that he welcomes new investment, which is in line with Cambodia’s socio-economic demands and the policy of the government.
