Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak urged the commerce departments in the capital and 24 provinces to work with local authorities and relevant institutions to set up weekend markets or more product exhibitions to promote the use of Khmer products as well as to spur exports.

The minister made the request on July 22 during the launch of the trade fair in Kampong Speu province.

Sorasak suggested that the provincial department of commerce make sure the local companies that organize the fairs do so with permission and pay taxes in order to follow the ministry's prakas which is aimed at collecting income for the state.

He also told the departments to take action in a timely manner when there is a congestion of products which normally happens in harvesting season.

The minister said that his ministry had made deep reforms in the commerce sector such as reducing administrative costs, strengthening competitiveness, improving the investment atmosphere and public services and bringing services closer to the people to ease the process of registration for the private sector.
