Prime Minister Hun Manet has shared his belief that Cambodia will continue to attract industrial investment based on a skilled workforce, adding that the Kingdom must continue to develop industrial infrastructure that serves investment.

“I am very optimistic and hopeful that, in the shade of peace and political stability, with Cambodia’s sustainable human resources and young skilled workforce, and the attractiveness of our investment environment Cambodian investment, we will continue to receive industrial investment,” he said.

He delivered his remarks while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of the Toyota assembly factory of Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing, on May 2 in Phnom Penh.

“Cambodia must continue to develop industrial infrastructure, as well as investing and training skilled human resources, in line with the needs of the labour market,” he said.

Manet highlighted the 7th legislature government’s vision of promoting, modifying and modernising the Kingdom’s industrial structure from a labour intensive one to one based on skills, in accordance with the Cambodian Industrial Development Policy 2015-2025.

This vision aims to contribute to the creation of added value manufacturing that supports sustainable economic growth and inclusiveness, as well as job creation, decent incomes and better living standards for the people.

Cambodia has set its sights on becoming a hub for automotive part manufacturing and electronic components for export to regional and global markets.

“Achieving this vision will bring positive fruit for the development of our,” said the prime minister.

The roadmap for the development of automobiles and electronics in Cambodia identifies priority measures in five areas: strategy and inter-institutional coordination, human resources and innovation, infrastructure, trade facilitation, and the business and investment environment.

Manet explained that when it comes to the development of the national economy, the government considers the private sector as the engine of growth and an important partner in creating jobs, fostering innovative ideas, increasing productivity and strengthening Cambodia’s competitiveness.

He added that the opening of the Toyota assembly plant is an important private sector contribution to the development of industry, as well as the national economy. It would increase competitiveness, promote the diversification and modernisation of industry, as well as providing job opportunities to the people of Cambodia.

“Inauguration of this facility will bring many benefits to the national economy and our people, and most importantly, increase productivity and enhance the prestige of Cambodia,” he said.

Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi also addressed the event.

He noted that the Toyota factory will definitely contribute to the diversification and modernisation of Cambodia’s manufacturing industry and the development of high-quality human resources.

He expressed the hope that all Cambodian employees trained by Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing will contribute to helping the Kingdom become a major manufacturing centre in the near future.

Ichiro Kashitani, president and CEO of Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing, noted at the event that the start of the automobile assembly operation will create a legacy of success for the government and his company.

He said his company will continue to make the business more prosperous, contributing more broadly to building happiness in society as a whole, such as by helping Cambodia achieve carbon neutrality and through the promotion of education.
