THE BRITISH EMBASSY in Phnom Penh celebrated the official birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on April 26 at the Great Duke Phnom Penh Hotel. Over 500 distinguished guests from the Royal Government of Cambodia, royal family, foreign diplomats, civil society leaders, and students are expected to join His Excellency British Ambassador Bill Longhurst to celebrate the event. Ambassador Longhurst spoke about the Queen’s birthday celebrations and the partnership between the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Cambodia. On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, His Excellency Ly Thuch, senior minister and secretary-general of the Cambodia Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, then also delivered a speech. Her Majesty the Queen’s coronation took place in 1953. Her official birthday is the national day of the United Kingdom which comprises England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
