The 17th Hun Sen Cup 2023-2024 final was played at Phnom Penh’s National Olympic Stadium on April 28, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of almost 30,000 fans.
This match served as a preliminary event in preparation for the next "2024 European Cup" tournament. Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, who are sponsored by LIXIN Group, were triumphant in the competition, securing a 1:0 victory over Phnom Penh Crown.
A Cambodian football tournament, the Hun Sen Cup is named after the country's previous prime minister, Hun Sen. Since it began in 2007, it has grown into a major annual athletic event. The 30,000 seat stadium was almost filled to capacity for the match.
Since the competition began, many teams hailing from Cambodia have engaged in fervent competition to win glory on the football pitch. Phnom Penh Crown and Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng both successfully progressed to the final, following intense campaigns.
Both the Champions League and Asian Champions League have witnessed ties between the two top-tier teams. The two sides showed fierce attacking instincts but were unable to break down one another’s equally impressive defensive structures. The game advanced to extra time.
In the end, after 120 minutes of fierce competition, it was the highly skilled layers of Svay Rieng FC who emerged triumphant with a score of 1:0, claiming the scalp of Phnom Penh Crown and the title.
Many people consider Svay Rieng to be among the most successful clubs in Cambodia. They won the highest football championship in Cambodia, the Metfone Cambodian competition (C-League), twice, in 2013 and 2019. They have also performed exceptionally well in previous Hun Sen Cup competitions. A select group of Cambodian teams compete at the top level in the international tournament, including the sportsmen of Svay Rieng.
In its role as sponsor, LIXIN Group congratulated Svay Rieng on their title success after the game. The squad’s captain recognised LIXIN Group's steadfast backing of the club.
LIXIN Group will continue to back Svay Rieng FC as they bravely go on and achieve even greater successes in future tournaments!
