Woori Bank (Cambodia) Plc on July 27, 2023 signed an agreement to provide charitable contributions to ChildFund Cambodia as part of the three-year "Improvement of Digital Competency in Education" project.

The ceremony in Phnom Penh was presided over by Woori Bank (Cambodia) Plc CEO Kim Hong Ju, representative of ChildFund Cambodia Chan Narin and ChildFund Korea representative Unjoung Choi.

Senior management from Woori Bank and ChildFund Cambodia were also in attendance.

Woori Bank will as part of the project – which is being coordinated by ChildFund Korea – provide funds for the equipment needed by the 21 selected schools in Phnom Penh as well as Kandal and Kampong Thom provinces.

“Promoting financial and digital literacy in Cambodia is part of our bank’s corporate social responsibility towards building better skilled and more competent human resources, which are in much demand today in business in Cambodia and around the world.

“At the individual level, improved digital competency will provide the students with greater opportunities to land better jobs.

"And at the national level, the acquiring of knowledge and skills in digital literacy will contribute to poverty reduction through employment growth,” Kim Hong Ju said at the signing ceremony.

The "Improvement of Digital Competency in Education" project will assist more than 24,000 children in learning the fundamentals of computer skills, including financial literacy and online safety, allowing them to expand their knowledge and skills to grow up into talented global citizens.

Chan Narin expressed ChildFund Cambodia's gratitude to ChildFund Korea for its coordination role and to Woori Bank as "a donor meaningfully contributing to improving the lives of children in the Kingdom”.

"With this project, we are establishing a variety of interventions to increase student enrolment in digital education to enhance lifelong learning by improving accessibility to quality digital education.

"And we are to put in place the necessary facilities by building ICT labs and libraries across all the 21 selected schools in Phnom Penh, Kandal and Kampong Thom provinces, as well as increase teacher capacity in ICT, financial literacy and online safety.

"ChildFund Cambodia began its first development project in the Kingdom in 2007 in Svay Rieng province, followed by Kratie in 2011 and Battambang in 2017.

"Phnom Penh, Kandal and Kampong Thom are our next priorities in improving digital competency among students from primary to upper secondary school," Chan Narin said.
