The Phnom Penh Post, the oldest independent media company in Cambodia, is seeking a full-time candidate for the position of sub-editor.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Work with a Cambodian-expatriate team of reporters and editors to produce quality news and analysis on Cambodian events
- Editing and rewriting stories by local staff and from news agencies
- Proofreading pages to meet the in-house style guide and to ensure clarity, grammar, spelling etc.
- Must have excellent attention to detail
- Producing written articles in the English Language
- Must be committed to balanced, non-biased reporting
- Must demonstrate a broad understanding of Cambodian history
- Must be able to work effectively within a multi-cultural environment
- Sub-editors will be expected to maintain awareness of key news events in Cambodia (monitoring all press releases etc.) and ensure that Post reporters/ photographers are dispatched as necessary to ensure comprehensive coverage of all breaking/ ongoing news.
Qualifications/experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or other related fields (preferred but not a must)
- Excellent command of English is a must; proficiency in Khmer is an asset
- News/business reporting experience
- At least one to two years’ experience as a sub-editor
- Familiarity with names of state institutions
- Familiarity with specific language used in court, business and politics
- Sound understanding of local politics and business atmosphere
- Cambodian nationals preferred but foreign nationals are encouraged to apply
