The French Embassy in Cambodia extended its congratulations to French-Cambodian film producer and director Davy Chou for his recent remarkable achievements.
Davy Chou has been selected as resident at the Villa Albertin for the year 2024 in Chicago. This will be an opportunity for him to draw inspiration from the city, where his next film will be set. This prestigious opportunity will allow him to continue his unique contribution to the Franco-Khmer film industry.
“Davy Chou was also chosen as a member of the jury for the ‘Un Certain Regard’ category at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, testifying to his talent and his growing influence in the world of cinema,” said an embassy statement.
It added that the director explored memory and cultural heritage through his films. His documentary "Le Sommeild’or" traces the testimonies of Cambodians who experienced the golden age of Cambodian cinema between the years 1960 and 1975, before the Khmer Rouge period during which many films were destroyed. He also explored the theme of identity with his film “Return to Seoul”.
