IBBY Cambodia is gearing up to host the highly anticipated International Children’s Book Day 2023 for three days in early June.
Set to take place on the picturesque grounds of Boeung Trabek High School in Phnom Penh, the event aims to promote reading and bring children closer to the enchanting world of books.
According to a press release seen by The Post, the 8th International Children’s Book Day will run from June 2-4 at the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Library located on the school premises. IBBY Cambodia, a network committed to fostering the bond between children and books, issued a call for parents to bring their children and join in the celebration.
Comprising publishers, authors, librarians, education professionals and other passionate advocates of reading promotion, IBBY Cambodia is excited to welcome 24 publishing and distribution houses during the three-day programme. The event is expected to draw a crowd of around 3,000 visitors, both young and old, who will have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of books.
Luch Chhengly, the youth librarian at the French Institute of Cambodia (IFC) and communications officer at IBBY Cambodia, highlighted the significance of the event.
She emphasised the importance of parents’ involvement in cultivating their children’s reading habits and encouraged them to attend the day’s activities.
Chhengly said reading is not limited to the confines of the classroom but can begin at a young age. The event, she added, seeks to provide children with a plethora of book choices, fostering a love for reading that extends beyond mere education or entertainment.
Moreover, the event aims to garner public support for local publishing houses, as Chhengly stressed the pivotal role parents play in promoting children’s reading and investing in books.
