Acclaimed Spanish musician and Guinness World Record-holder Rafael Serrallet will give master classes and perform a recital at the Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA) in Cambodia on December 29.

Hailed as a guitarist “of profound and thoughtful artistry”, Spanish-born Serrallet is one of the biggest names in Spanish music.

The Instituto Internacional de Musica Iberica on December 26 said that “with a career spanning 30 years and more than 1,000 concerts across 100 countries, Serrallet is probably the most internationally experienced concertists among Spanish performers”, one with a gift for outstanding performances.

He was the first classical musician to play concerts on all seven continents, including Antarctica, and received a Guinness World Record in 2018 for the achievement, it added.

“His passionate performances and unique musical interpretation have been described as ‘spellbinding and captivating’.

“Serrallet’s performances are full of passion, and he is without a doubt a true ambassador of Spanish culture.

“His activities in Cambodia are sponsored by the Spanish ministry of culture and will conclude his 2022 international tour,” the Instituto Internacional de Musica Iberica said.

The musical programme will include pieces by Spanish composers such as Albeniz, Tarrega and Magin, among others. He will also play with the RUFA chamber music players, highlighting the work of Spanish female guitarist and composer Josefina Robledo, and perform a piece he composed himself that is dedicated to RUFA, it added.

“Serrallet is much more than a guitarist – he is a comprehensive musician who wants to share his passion for music with as many people as possible.

“He has developed music pedagogical projects in Morocco, the Middle East, Sudan, the DR Congo, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Senegal, the Philippines and Myanmar, among others.

“Contrary to the perception that classical music can sometimes be elitist and excluding, Rafael likes to approach it as an excellent tool for social integration,” the Instituto Internacional de Musica Iberica said.
