The Central Committee of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) will convene on November 26, with thousands of party officials meeting to strengthen party membership as next year’s general election approaches.
Prime Minister Hun Sen, in his capacity as CPP president, will preside over the meeting at the party headquarters in Tonle Bassac commune of Phnom Penh’s Chamkar Mon district.
The City Hall on November 23 called on the public to assist in avoiding traffic congestion and with the maintaining of security, safety and public order.
It advised all road users that the stretch of Norodom Boulevard from the traffic lights at Mao Tse Toung Boulevard to the Old Monivong Bridge and the area around the venue will be closed on November 26 from 5am until the meeting’s conclusion.
CPP spokesman Sok Eysan on November 23 said the 7th-mandate parliamentary election – scheduled for July 23 next year – would be discussed at the Central Committee meeting.
“The meeting will discuss various issues, including the political situation in the country and abroad, which is normal ... And the 2023 national election will inevitably be on the agenda. All parties, not just the CPP, are stepping up their gear in the run-up to the election,” he said.
Party leaders and thousands of members from ministries and institutions, along with officials from each district of Phnom Penh, would attend the meeting, he noted.
