The Cambodian Senate congratulated the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as well as the Chinese government, ahead of the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which will take place on October 16.

A September 27 letter from the Senate said the 20th Congress is of great significance to the Chinese government and people, especially at a time when it is developing a prosperous economy, prestige and successful socialism.

“The Cambodian Senate strongly believes that the [CPPCC] will set out new in-depth strategies and directions with a strong will and a high level of commitment to accelerate development and push for the country and the people of China to move towards greater prosperity,” it said.

“Cambodia continues to adhere to its unwavering stand in support of the One-China policy and has always regarded China as a good neighbour, friend, brother and partner. With this, the relationship and cooperation between the two countries and peoples have been strengthened and expanded to the highest level: comprehensive cooperation, strategic partnership, an ironclad friendship and a common Cambodian-Chinese destiny.

“The Senate and the Cambodian people express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the National Assembly, the Government and the people of China for their continued support and development assistance in all areas, which makes a significant contribution to the protection of Cambodia’s independence and sovereignty,” it said.

In particular, it said the recent influx of Chinese medical supplies and vaccines has also helped alleviate Cambodia’s difficult situation effectively. China has played an important part in supporting the Kingdom’s successful fight against Covid-19.

A total of more than 2,000 delegates have been selected to attend the upcoming congress, according to China’s state news agency Xinhua.

In a meeting with Liu Jianchao – director of the CPC’s International Liaison Department – Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked the Chinese government and people for their continued support for Cambodia’s development.

Hun Sen called on China to continue to expand cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and green energy in Cambodia to promote the Kingdom’s economic growth and improve people’s lives.
