A senior military officer in charge of the Cambodian-Thai Border Relation Office at the Poipet international checkpoint was arrested for allegedly firing his gun while drunk on Wednesday.
Ham Muth, Military Police commander for Poipet town in Banteay Meanchey province, said Lieutenant Colonel Lim Tech had opened fire into the ground in an attempt to intimidate his neighbours.
A villager, who wished to remain anonymous, said Lim Tech frequently fired his weapon in local restaurants and karaoke bars.
Deputy Director of the Cambodian-Thai Border Relation Office Pich Vanna disputed this version of events and claimed that Lim Tech was merely testing his firearm.
