A Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker plans to send a letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen on Thursday requesting that Foreign Affairs Minister Hor Namhong be removed from his post over the recent diplomatic efforts regarding the border conflict with Thailand.

SRP lawmaker Chea Poch said yesterday that Hor Namhong had displayed “weak” diplomatic skills. “I would like the government to consider moving Hor Namhong,” Chea Poch said.

He added that during recent border fighting, no one in the international community had released a statement recognising Cambodia’s victory at the International Court of Justice in 1962 and ASEAN observers had not arrived to investigate the conflict.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Koy Kuong said yesterday that the SRP’s request would not be successful.

“I have not seen any points where we are weak,” Koy Kuong said, adding that Cambodia had previously approached the United Nations Security Council and had also requested that the ICJ expand upon the 1962 ruling.
