One million doses of Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Cambodia on June 8 – 500,000 doses of Sinovac and 500,000 doses of Sinopharm with the former purchased and the latter donated, according to Ministry of Health secretary of state York Sambath.

Speaking during a handover ceremony at the Phnom Penh International Airport, Sambath said Cambodia had also purchased another eight million doses from the two Chinese pharmaceutical companies – four million from Sinovac and four million from Sinopharm.

Among these eight million doses, one million from each company will touch down in Cambodia later this month. The other six million doses will arrive in the coming months.

In a Facebook post on June 7, Prime Minister Hun Sen said one million doses will arrive on June 12 and another one million on June 19.

“Our country is poor, but we are not poor at preparing plans to protect the lives of our people,” he said.

As of June 7, Cambodia had inoculated nearly 2.8 million people.
